Mission Trip Brings Encouragement, Learning, and Community Engagement
Jalawelo had the privilege of partnering with GOGF Ministries and several local organizations through a week of outreach, learning, fellowship, and encouragement. The trip reflected Jalawelo's commitment to holistic community development by combining educational activities, youth engagement, community service, health promotion, spiritual encouragement, and relationship building.
One of the primary locations for the mission trip was Dela Vega City (DVC), a community where Jalawelo has invested significant time building relationships and supporting local residents. Throughout the week, team members worked alongside community leaders, volunteers, and partner organizations to create meaningful opportunities for engagement and service.
A major highlight was a special community fun day for children. Young participants enjoyed a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Members of the team also facilitated workshops and interactive learning experiences that encouraged students to think critically while having fun. The event provided an opportunity for children to learn, explore new ideas, and build positive relationships with volunteers and mentors.
The trip also provided an opportunity to connect with participants in Jalawelo's Young Adult Circle (YAC) program. During a special gathering, team members met with young adults to discuss their goals, challenges, and aspirations. The gathering celebrated the progress many participants had made in their personal and educational development. One particularly memorable moment was the presentation of a laptop to the program's top YAC participant, recognizing their commitment, achievement, and dedication. The award was intended not only as a recognition of excellence but also as a practical tool to support future learning and growth.
Partner Organizations
Community outreach extended beyond organized events. Team members spent time walking through the community, visiting elderly shut-ins who are often unable to participate in community activities due to age or health challenges. During these visits, volunteers listened to their stories, prayed with them, shared words of encouragement, and delivered Christmas gifts. These personal interactions reminded us that meaningful community development involves caring for the whole person and ensuring that those who are often overlooked know they are valued and remembered.
Another significant component of the trip was Jalawelo's partnership with the Central Jamaica Conference (CJC) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to host a Health and Wellness Community Fair in Dela Vega City. The event provided residents with access to health information, wellness resources, and practical guidance related to healthy living. Community members were able to interact with healthcare professionals and volunteers while learning about steps they could take to improve their overall well-being. The fair represented an important collaboration between faith-based organizations working together to strengthen community health.
The team also traveled to Kingston, where they visited students at the Miracle Learning Center in Olympic Gardens. Volunteers spent time interacting with students, participating in educational activities, and encouraging the children in their academic pursuits. These visits provided valuable opportunities to build relationships and reinforce the importance of education as a pathway to future opportunity.
Perhaps one of the most memorable moments of the entire trip was a Christian reggae concert held in Dela Vega City. The event brought together residents from across the community for an evening of music, worship, fellowship, and celebration. The concert created a joyful atmosphere that united people of different ages and backgrounds while sharing a message of faith and hope.
Throughout the mission trip, we were encouraged by the spirit of partnership demonstrated by everyone involved. We are deeply grateful to GOGF Ministries, the Central Jamaica Conference, local community leaders, volunteers, and all those who contributed their time, talents, and resources to make the trip successful.
The week served as a reminder that lasting impact is often built through relationships, collaboration, and consistent engagement. Whether through STEM activities with children, mentoring young adults, supporting health initiatives, encouraging students, visiting elderly residents, or worshiping together in community, each activity contributed to a broader vision of strengthening individuals and communities.
As we look back on this mission trip, we remain thankful for the opportunity to serve and for the many relationships that were strengthened along the way. We look forward to continuing these partnerships and building upon the foundation established during this memorable week of ministry and community engagement.
